Out with the old and in with the New Year!

If there’s one year I will gladly bid farewell to, it is 2009! Why? Oh, those of you who know me personally, you could make your own list. For everyone else, the reason: It was probably the most difficult year of my adult life. Things happened that were truly unpredictible, unexpected (and not in a good way), and down right surprising (again, not really in a good way).

Although it was a tough year (code for “major growth as a human being”), there were some truly unpredictible, unexpected (in a good way) and down right surprising (again, in a good way). I’m counting my blessings…the “good stuff” of 2009:

  • I spent a glorious two weeks with my kids at the Jersey Shore (NOTHING like that hideous tv show on MTV!!!!) with my kids. We biked and walked and enjoyed each other’s company.
  • I returned to my home state, The Garden State (Yes, this is a good thing for this Jersey girl)
  • I learned that I had truly understood and forgiven, even if others hadn’t
  • My children are happy & healthy and transitioned well into a new situation (both making honor roll at school!!)
  • The long-awaited book, The Organized Mom, magically appeared (well, that’s what it felt like) one day on amazon.com. The following day, a box of books were carefully wrapped in plastic bags (two to be exact, so no rain would seep through) by my wonderful UPS man!
  • My kids experienced a white Christmas and snow like they’d never seen before!
  • We spent Thanksgiving with family for the first time in…forever
  • We spent Christmas with family
  • I spent New Year’s Eve with one of my oldest and dearest friends. This is the first year, in more than 20 years, that we’ve both been living in NJ at the same time!

At this stage of life, I realize that life is truly a balancing act. Even when it comes down to everyday events, it appears you get an equal amount of good and bad, positive and negative, etc. etc. I embrace the postive and leave the negative behind (waaaayyyy behind!!!!) and move into 2010 (the year that in 1980 I thought I’d be really, really OLD), with a smile, knowing that no other year will kick my *&% like the year 2009.

Happy New Year!
