Freak the Freak out

When I first saw the “Keep Calm and Carry On” slogan, I thought that it was a great reminder to not stress. The slogan was developed at the beginning of WWII to strengthen morale of the troops. More than one million copies were issued, but only two actually exist today. The slogan was never used in the army.

I’ve regretted the day I didn’t buy the picture at Home Goods, but it’s on my PC desktop as a regular reminder.

A few weeks back, I discovered the “Now Panic and Freak Out,” which I like even better (only because I’ve managed to move into a place in my life where I am actually more calm and don’t freak out nearly as often as I used to. I also have more of a sense of humor about life, which explains the fact that I do freak out much less often. :-) )

My mantra for 2011 is to Keep Calm and Carry On and so far, so good. Most of the time, when I would freak out, it was really a unconscious reaction combined with forgetting to breathe or a wasted reaction to someone who was completely unconscious or unaware of their own behavior. Taking a moment to realize that I have a choice and that the world won’t end even if I do stay calm has really helped me to not freak out in what would otherwise be a “freak out” situation. I like it!

The title of this post came from hearing too many Nickelodeon pop songs. Victoria Justice sings Freak the Freak out…it’s kinda catchy, I guess.

So, how about you? Do you keep calm or freak out?
