GO in Your Garage

Garage organization is typically one of those dreaded tasks like organizing the basement or the attic…and if you live in the Lowcountry, there are no basements (unless you have an elevated home perhaps), therefore the garage is truly used for storage items that others may put in the basement or attic.
One benefit to organizing a garage is that, generally, you can remove everything in order to sweep it out and determine where things will go. Start by Zoning the space, which means alloting certain areas of the garage for specific items/tasks. For example, Gardening zone where all the gardening tools, supplies, fertilizers/pesticides, etc. are maintained. Another zone could be for the Sporting Equipment, including bicycles, scooters, soccer/football/baseball equipments, etc., or how about a zone for Holiday Decorations, Tools, or Toys.

Here are some key tips for maximizing space:

Use overhead storage–This will optimize vertical space, get items off the floor and perhaps make it possible to store your vehicle in the garage. Overhead storage is a great place to put Holiday decorations and other items that aren’t used but once or twice a year.
Shelving–Again, if you can remove items from the floor and utilize vertical storage, it’s a good thing. You don’t necessarily need to install shelving on the walls, try this easy-to-assemble industrial type shelving that you can take with you if you move.

Sporting EquipmentHoist your bicycles and contain balls and other baseball/soccer/football related items in a rolling cart.
Remember to use the GOPACK Method as a way to easily organize your project!
